Welcome to the 13th edition of the web issue of our Southwind Spotlight newsletter. Latest update 1/2/08.
JACOB HIGHLIGHTS
On January 15th we will be shearing the ewes in preparation for lambing. Lambing is expected to begin about February 26th. We are looking forward to the arrival of these lambs. Chicory Lane Charleton, Chicory Lane Salvadore, Weber's Thistle and Southwind Orville will all produce offsring this year. All of these rams are excellent four horned individuals and are all RR to boot. A large percentage of our lamb crop should be RR as well.
SHEEP FOR SALE
We have several beautiful 4 HORN RAMs still available for sale. Be sure to look at Southwind Morgan, Lilac Mountain Maestro, and 3 Southwind bred yearling rams all would be excellent additions to any flock. Ewes and lambs also for sale.

Sheep pictures and pedigrees can be viewed on our meet the sheep page.
Our Gratitude
Thank you so much to all those who have found a place for our sheep and goats within your own flocks. We appreciate your confidence in our breeding program and wish you the best success with the animals you have chosen.
GOLDEN GLOW
We are now officially certified as a Scrapie Free Flock.
Thank you Nina for all your help collecting bucks and breeding does. It was great to see you and Tom again. We are now up to 10 grade guernsey females and 19 Purebred Golden Guernsey does. We plan to breed 14 purebred GG does this fall. We now have semen stored here in NY, with Joan Stump in PA and with Nina in CA. Check out the list of semen available on the Meet the Goldens page.
Breeding assignments are listed on the MEET THE GOLDENS page. Current names of people reserving buck kids are also listed there.
We also have several purebred bucks looking for homes, check them out on the MEET THE GOLDENS page. Semen is also available.
AT THE TROT
2007 was an outstanding year for Southwind bred standardbreds. Southwind Farms was ranked #8 in the country in leading breeders. We bred two of the top ten ranked horses in the country and was breeder of the 3 YO Pacing Filly of the year. We had a Breeders Crown winner in the trotting filly division. We bred one of the leading money winning colts in the country as well. Our yearlings were very well accepted at the fall sales.
MISCELLANEOUS
In addition to the goats, sheep and horses listed above we have smaller populations of other animals. We have lionhead rabbits, peafowl (white, blue and black shouldered), swans (mute and black), ducks and pheasants (Lady Amherst, Red Golden, and Impeyan). We have a mini donkey who is worth his weight in gold as a babysitter for sick or injured horses. We lost one of our mute swans last summer and are looking for a replacement.
The Commercial Goat flock consists of the Boer Goats (7 does) and the Pygmy goats (4 does) . Our black & white fainting goat buck Moonlight's Samson and our fluffy tricolor fainting goat buck WFF Boyd make up the male portion of this flock. Our Commercial goat breeding groups consist of Myotonic buck Samson with boer does; Shiloh, Bailey, Bliss and Dancer and pygmy does; Latte, Misfit and Frolic. Myotonic buck Boyd will be with the Samson daughters 1/2 Boer; Diamond, Pearl and Debutante and 1/2 pygmy Vendetta. One part pygmy Samson daughter born this year did faint but she went to a new home up near Albany. There are now five llamas doing guard duty over the four flocks. (Male Goats, Female Goats, male sheep, female sheep.) The llama herd consists of an intact male appaloosa (mostly white) called Tango. Two appaloosa geldings Apollo (formerly Antollah) and Picasso (formerly Pinta). A very pretty appaloosa female called Mishu and a brown female called Lizzie.
