Jacob Sheep

Jacob Sheep are an ancient, primitive breed. American Jacobs are considered a rare breed. Jacobs are black and white, or lilac (grey) and white spotted sheep. They often have panda bear faces. Jacob Sheep both males and females can have two, four, or even six horns. Jacobs are considered a wool sheep as opposed to a meat sheep. Their fleeces are prized by handspinners. Jacobs are excellent mothers. They are healthy and hardy. They require little intervention.

Southwind Farms has been raising Jacob Sheep since 1989. We have carefully selected our breeding stock. We concentrate on breeding four horned Jacobs. Therefore, all of our breeding stock have four or more horns. We do, however, produce some 2 horned lambs. These tend to be high quality lambs and are always available at discounted prices.

Our personal aim is for four horned sheep with good horn carriage, all all three facial markings. This would be two eye patches and a muzzle patch. We currently have 22 bred females and nine young females, which we chose not to breed. We try to avoid close inbreeding. To this end, we generally do not use rams which we have produced ourselves. We like to use a minium of 2-3 rams from outside bloodlines each year.
