Golden Guernsey Goats The Golden Guernsey Goat is a small goat known for its beautiful golden color. Their color, coat and skin, can be all shades of gold with or without small white markings. This ranges from pale cream to rich gold and includes roan markings. Goldens do not have swiss markings. All coats from totally smooth to completely longhaired are acceptable. Their conformation is strong and fine boned. They are generally smaller and less wedge shaped than other breeds. The Golden Guernsey Goat has a beautiful head. The facial line is straight or slightly dished. The ears are erect and point forward with a slight upturn at the tips. They have no tassels. The Golden Guernsey Goat is a mild mannered breed. They are gentle and accepting of others. Golden Guernsey Goats are critically rare worldwide. In the United States there are only 11 purebred females. All of these reside at Southwind Farms, in New York State. We also are the only source of purebred males in the United States. There are several people across the country who are breeding Golden Guernsey crosses. While these crosses will never be Golden Guernseys they can be bred up and registered with the BGS as British Guernseys. Pixie's triplets Southwind Farm began their Golden Guernsey flock with embryos. This project began in the early 1990's and took a long time to get going. The first embryo offspring were finally born in 1998. It has been very slow developing, but we enjoy the Goldens very much. It is our desire and focus to work on preserving the Golden Guernsey Goat. It is a beautiful animal. We feel that it deserves to be preserved. We believe that due to its rarity here in the U.S. and worldwide that a breeding up program is absolutely necessary for the preservation of the breed. This program needs to be pursued responsibly. Therefore, we encourage anyone purchasing grade guernseys to join the BGS and follow their breeding up scheme for British Guernseys. However, we do offer purebred, BGS registered GGG males for sale for use in breeding up programs. We also offer frozen semen on these males. In addition we offer BGS recorded grade females for use in breeding up programs.
